Time has always been of the essence for everyone. Whether you’re a noob adolescent or a striving business man, it has always been important to have a good sense of time management so as to be able to juggle all your responsibilities efficiently. You see, contrary to popular belief and ancient quotes, time has far more worth in weight than what gold could ever have.
I won’t claim to be a psychology major and ask you to believe me in everything I say – because I’m not. What I will about to tell you though, is something that’s now part of popular belief and ancient realizations. Indeed, experience is the best teacher.
As we grow in life and love, we are often lead to the realization that the twenty-four hours in a day just simply won’t cut it. You’d love to have a few more hours everyday just so you could finish up that enticing novel chapter or have a few drinks with your best buddies. In either case, you somehow believe you’re better off doing something productive rather than invest in your social status. However, this is where contradictions come into the picture. While it is true that having material wealth can increase your comfort levels in life, experience shouts back and tells us that without people to share those with, you might as well be left gathering the dust. Similar to a well-baked cake, we know how imperfect it is without the proper icing on it. Similar to our personal achievements, we shall soon realize that without people to share your laughs with, you might as well have been sleeping in a cave to rot yourself out.
Now, you ask how to go about balancing your responsibilities in life and the ones that make it all worth it? The answer may be so simple, yet so hard to act out – give time. I’m the type that doesn’t believe that time is gold, because I know time is worth more than that. Time with friends is worth all the hard work you put in. Time with your family is worth more than all the organizational meetings your have had. Time with your special one is worth more than any gold jewelry can offer. And time for yourself is worth more than any amount of your paycheck can ever receive.
It may be hard at first, but as long as you give time for people and not things, events will surely follow. Try to set aside a day a month for you guys to gather and talk about all the random stuff in the world. Make a week-end ritual for your closest friends, be it a mall outing or a DVD marathon. It all depends on the clique you got – be creative.
As long as you’re together in the moments of time that you share, then trust me when I tell you that there is more to life than comparing time to gold. In fact, there isn’t even any comparison for the two.
Why?
Because time isn’t gold, for the reason that it isn’t a material object. In fact, time is a state of unparalleled bliss, which can only be enjoyable when you have people to share it with.
P.S. To the Handuraw Knights gang: ’til next month!
