Over at Cebu Midtown Hotel on a Saturday afternoon, a good number of youth leaders in their respective organizations came together for a rare opportunity – attend a youth empowerment conference held for the primary purpose of promoting better leadership in and among the youth.
Organized by the Asia Pacific Ads Unlimited, a Cebu-based company that serves customers by handling different services such as printing, publishing, and advertising, the event was aptly named Level Up To Greatness:An Empowerment Conference For Youth Leaders. It was held last June 19, 2010 at the Cebu Midtown Hotel in the heart of Cebu City. Registration was free, and a few good number of student-leaders were present.
Different colleges from Cebu were also represented, as student-leaders from USC, UC, CIT, CTU, Velez College, UP, USJ-R, STC, and many more were present and involved in this once-in-a-while event.
There were different talks centered on Youth Empowerment, with the speakers being experienced in their respective fields and knowledgeable in their topics of concern. Most of the talks were centered mostly on being a leader and not a dictator, aside from eradicating the apathy of the youth involvement in social and national issues. They talked about the qualities of being a leader, and of having the right attitudes of being one. The importance of networking was also stressed, and along with this was the resources that an organization needs to successfully launch a campaign or a project.
Probably the best personal gain I had during that conference was the listing down of the C's of Effective Teams – and these are the following:
- Clarity of Grip
- Communication
- Commitment
- Caring
- Collaboration
- Challenge
- Celebration
These were all explained in detail during that event, and I hope we who were present there got something great out of it. Applicability is the real trophy of theory, and for the next few months, may we all be able to look back and actually say we gained a few good thoughts for that.
As one of the speakers entitled his speech with, I end with a line that we should all think of following: Be the best that you can be.
